BetaVote Site Updates

October 4th, 2008

Thanks to everyone who’s voted so far, and to those who have sent thoughtful comments and suggestions!

Effective immediately, we have added a “share” link for social bookmarking (Digg et al), and make the results table sortable.  We hope this will enhance the BetaVote experience, and help spread the word.

We’ve collected over 2000 votes already and hope to have some more interesting statistical breakdowns up soon.  So spread the word and check back soon!

BetaVote 2008 is Live!

September 21st, 2008

We’re happy to report that BetaVote 2008 is live and waiting for your vote:

http://www.betavote.com/

There are some display issues with Internet Explorer; we’re working on them.  But we’re informed it does work in MSIE, it just looks a bit funny.  The RSS link is also not working right now on the main site; the blog RSS link works fine, and I will of course announce here when I have the other one working.

It’s probably also worth noting that the results page doesn’t have any fancy cuts of the data yet, but only because we just got rolling and haven’t had many votes.  This will change pretty soon, so please check back again later after you vote.  If 2008 is anything like 2004 we should have some interesting results to chart.

Finally, we know there were some problems with the blog link.  That was a name server hiccup, and if you can read this then it should be fixed by now.

So away we go! Please spread the word, vote your honest opinion, and check the blog and the results page for updates.

What if the whole world could vote in the US Presidential election?

Since there has been so much negative energy in the campaigning lately, I thought this article might cheer people up.

BetaVote 2008 Almost Ready!

August 24th, 2008

I’m happy to report that BetaVote 2008 is almost ready to launch!

Daniel and I have talked through a lot of the details, and I’ve got the site design and basic voting logic done.  The remainder is just a small matter of programming…

We don’t have a specific launch date set, but if you were to come back in a week chances are you’d find it up and running, though maybe without all the final bells and whistles.

BetaVote 2008 will have some nifty new features:

  • Better security.
  • More data breakdowns.
  • An updated, Web-2.0-ish look and feel.
  • An RSS feed for you data-integration junkies.
  • This blog!

The old site will be archived and placeholders will go up in the main site in the next few days.  In the meantime, if you got this far please bookmark this blog, as it will be the main place to get meta-updates about the BetaVote 2008 project itself.
